App based learning methodology in Shikshas: A CherYsh – Meghshala Partnership

CherYsh has joined hands with Meghshala Trust with the objective of enhancing teaching quality at the Shikshas. The app based learning modules designed by Meghshala are in line with the national curriculum followed at the government Schools. The curriculum is split into easy-to-learn units with lots of activities and is made available on the cloud.

Shahnaz Begum had thought of herself as just another resident of Mundwad Village who had lived with her now-retired army-man husband in various parts of India while he served the nation, and who would now live out the rest of her life in her village, hopefully in peace, and certainly in anonymity. But that was before CherYsh did a Skills Mapping exercise in her village and discovered, quite by chance, that she had expertise in ‘Khila Work’ – a tapestry technique using nail and board to weave strips and squares.

CherYsh taps the hidden talent of Shenaz Begam

Her talent was discovered during a skilling meeting in Haliyal. The shy lady hesitatingly spoke out about how she had learnt the craft of ‘keela'( nail) weaving during her posting in Agra as an Army wife. CherYsh made note of the tremendous talent and the fact that she can bring this skill to a number of women in the community. CherYsh Scholarship for football champions from Haliyal

Five talented footballers from Haliyal – Jyothi, Akshata, Sheetal, Madevi and Sunita, who are National College level football players and bright students who have cleared PSU had big aspirations… to graduate from a college that supports them with advanced coaching in football.

CherYsh at the TCS World 10K, 2018

The TCS World 10K run kicked off on 27th May, 2018 in Bengaluru. CherYsh was represented by a team of 38 runners – students, senior citizens, homemakers and professionals signed up to run for the cause of education for rural girls. Among them was the CherYsh team from Haliyal – four Learning Facilitators, two CherYsh Field Officers, and four Shiksha students—Jayshree, Tasalambi, Darshan and Isubsab—who got their first taste of a big run in a big city!

The e-story: User Learning Curve

The e-story in Haliyal began with the introduction of Tablet devices for Learning Facilitators(Shiksha Tutors). This enables them to maintain enrollment records of all children, their performance evaluation, and attendance. In addition, the devices were updated with audio-visual content for the phonics-based English learning program. Training programs were conducted and covered aspects of excel usage, user interface, data, and data integrity.

Service through nursing careers

The CherYsh grant to promote nursing scholars, with rural backgrounds, continued to support 8 trainee nurses. Two completed the course, and have begun working at the St. Martha’s Hospital. The nurses completed their annual examinations with first class scores.
